Pure Food School-Based Cooking Program
These classes provide a varied and comprehensive curriculum of school-based cooking classes, to give students a greater appreciation of healthy whole foods, and teach modern cooking techniques in a hands-on, fun and relaxed environment.
Classes aim to assist Home Economics programs and the learning progression of students. Lessons impart basic knife skills through to precision cutting styles, and basic cooking techniques through to specific cuisine styles, all the while focusing on healthy whole foods and fun, easy recipes. Classes are also tailored to the ages of students and levels of schooling.
The program is devised and presented by chef Dominique Rizzo, who has over ten-years experience facilitating cooking classes at Mondo Organics in Brisbane’s West End, Black Pearl Epicure in Fortitude Valley and Learn Cook Dine cooking school in Loganholme. Dominique is extremely passionate about her newest venture, the Pure Food School-Based Cooking Program.
The program is a unique concept enabling students to develop skills in cooking, ingredient recognition, flavour building and food presentation. Classes encompass basic professional cooking and preparation techniques, while focusing on following the current school-based curriculum.
Classes are held on school premises and during school hours. All ingredients, recipes and related kitchen notes are provided. The program includes hands-on classes—where all students participate in chopping, preparation, cooking and serving of foods—and demonstration-based classes—where selected students participate in the preparation and cooking and most students observe. Depending on the students’ ages, chopping may not be appropriate; classes will be tailored to suit.
Classes for teachers are also available. The Pure Food School-Based Cooking Program classes for teachers are a great opportunity for team building and for developing and honing new cooking skills. Teachers’ classes are held after school and on school premises.
Previous high-school classes have been held at John Paul College, Mt Alvernia College, Canterbury College and A.B. Paterson College, Boonah State High and primary classes held at Mary Immaculate Primary School. The program is fast becoming a welcomed addition to the Home Economics department.
“The opportunity to pass on the importance of learning basic cooking skills and techniques to prepare simple healthy meals to our next generation is a gift. Through teaching, I feel I am able to share my innate enthusiasm, knowledge and passion for what I have come to learn is an invaluable lesson, which will assist any young person in life.”

Testimonials
I have just been to the Gold Coast Food & Wine Festival & just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your cooking demonstration & the food tasted delicious; can't wait to get the recipes. My three friends & I felt your demonstration was by far the most superior in every way - thank you. We shall watch you on Ready Steady Cook with renewed interest. Thank you again.
Thanks for a great night, we all enjoyed it immensely and I think a number of the team members surprised themselves with how well the meals turned out! The partners/husbands back at home were also very grateful for their share of the dishes as well. Your passion for what you do is obvious and so easily transferred to getting great results from a bunch of amateurs. I’m sure that the classes will be a great success.
On behalf of the Girls Night Out Program I would like to extend our sincere thanks for your generous contributions to our recent Cooking Show.
A fantastic number of women attended to see you cook up a storm! It was our privilege to have teenagers from our local schools (who are a part of the Girls Excel Life Skills Programs) also attend with their families.
Thank you so much for organising today’s event. It was fantastic!!! I really enjoyed it and it was great to learn! Also great team building exercise. The wellness program is good and it’s going well with my attendance at boot camp! Please also pass my thanks to your helpers and to Dominique who was really amazing!
I actually made the soufflé and fritters for my son's vegetarian friends last night who were overwhelming with their ‘mmmmmmmms’ and ‘ooooooh’ and ‘aaaaaaarghs’ while they were devouring their meals – a cook's satisfaction indeed. Anyhow, thanks again for a great class, it was a thoroughly enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Thank you for the fantastic cooking class today! My daughters, my niece and I had a wonderful time, and learned so much. I even made my husband buy me a pasta maker today, and then I made the meatballs and pasta for dinner. It took me a while, but it turned out great. Tomorrow night – Ravioli! Thank you again.
